Expanded Metal Price & Sheet Quote Guide

This page lists the specification and order conditions required to quote standard and custom expanded metal sheets.

Pricing basis

Expanded metal price is calculated from the material, sheet dimensions, thickness or gauge, SWD, LWD, strand width, surface finish, quantity, packing method and delivery destination. A sheet format identifies the panel dimensions only; it does not identify the mesh specification.

What Affects Expanded Metal Price?

A price comparison is valid only when the material, mesh geometry, thickness, finish, quantity and delivery basis are the same. The following inputs are required for a technical quotation.

Material and Grade

Material grade affects raw material cost, density, corrosion resistance and any subsequent finishing process.

Thickness and Gauge

Base metal thickness or gauge affects sheet weight, load capacity, mesh profile and material consumption.

SWD, LWD and Strand Width

SWD, LWD and strand width define the opening geometry, open area, load path and material consumption.

Sheet Size

Sheet size identifies whether the order is for a standard panel, a custom panel or a cut-to-size project panel.

Raised or Flattened Form

Flattening changes the mesh profile and may affect dimensional tolerances, surface condition and processing requirements.

Finish, Quantity and Delivery

Finishing, packing, order quantity and destination affect processing cost, freight calculation and delivered price.

Expanded Metal Sheet Price: Specification Required

Expanded metal sheet price cannot be determined from sheet dimensions alone. Material grade, thickness, SWD, LWD, strand width, mesh form and finish must be stated before a quotation can be prepared.

Quote inputWhat to specifyWhy it matters
MaterialCarbon steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel, aluminum, or other gradeChanges material cost, weight, corrosion performance and finishing.
Mesh patternSWD, LWD and strand widthIdentifies the opening geometry and material usage.
ThicknessBase thickness or gauge, plus raised/flattened formChanges strength, weight, profile and production method.
Surface finishMill finish, galvanized, anodized, powder coated or customAdds processing, protection and color requirements.
Quantity and destinationSheets, panels, packing, port or delivery locationDetermines production planning, packing and freight calculation.

Quotation note: A universal price cannot be assigned to “expanded metal” without a complete mesh specification and delivery basis. Confirm the final price against the supplier quotation.

Basis of comparison

Compare aluminum, carbon steel and stainless steel using the same sheet dimensions, SWD, LWD, strand width, thickness, finish, quantity and delivery basis. Price per sheet alone does not establish equivalent weight, strength or corrosion performance.

Use the expanded metal weight calculator for an estimated weight comparison.

Information Required for an Expanded Metal Quotation

Specification checklist

  • Material and grade
  • Raised or flattened expanded metal
  • SWD, LWD and strand width

Expanded Metal Price and Quotation FAQ

How is expanded metal price determined?
Price is determined by material, sheet size, thickness or gauge, SWD, LWD, strand width, surface finish, quantity, packing method and delivery destination. A complete specification is required for a quotation.
Why is a sheet size alone not enough for a quote?
Sheet dimensions do not identify material grade, thickness, SWD, LWD, strand width, raised or flattened form, finish, quantity or delivery destination. These details are required to quote the sheet.
How should aluminum and carbon steel expanded metal prices be compared?
Use the same sheet dimensions, SWD, LWD, strand width, thickness, finish, quantity and delivery basis. Material cost, density and finishing requirements can differ between aluminum and carbon steel.
What should I send for an expanded metal quotation?
Send material and grade, mesh type, sheet dimensions, thickness or gauge, SWD, LWD, strand width, surface finish, quantity, application and destination. Drawings or sample photos can be used to verify the mesh.
Can weight be estimated before requesting a quotation?
Yes. The expanded metal calculator estimates weight per square meter, total sheet weight and open area from the entered mesh dimensions and material density. The supplier should confirm the production value.
