Nominal opening = 25.4 ÷ mesh count − wire diameter (mm). Open area = (nominal opening ÷ pitch)² × 100. Values are calculated references for equal-count square mesh; actual measurements depend on production tolerances.

How it is woven

One wire over, one wire under

In a 1/1 plain weave, every warp wire alternates over and under consecutive weft wires. Equal mesh counts and wire diameters in both directions create nominal square openings. The clear opening changes when either mesh count or wire diameter changes.

Choosing the construction

When to Choose Plain Weave

Start with plain weave when the application calls for a regular, measurable square opening. If the required fine mesh and wire diameter cannot be balanced in a 1/1 weave, comparetwill weave stainless steel wire meshand ask us to review the complete construction.

Industrial use

Common Applications

Choose the mesh geometry against the particle size, airflow or support requirement of the equipment.

Screening & sieving

Controlled square openings for particle sizing and process screening.

Filter support

A woven support or protective layer when a defined aperture is required.

Equipment protection

Screens and guards specified by opening, wire diameter and finished shape.

OEM fabrication

Cut discs, strips and other drawing-based pieces for downstream assembly.

Material & form

Wholesale Rolls, Cut Sheets & OEM Mesh Parts

SS304 is commonly used for general industrial service. SS316 may be considered where chloride exposure or process chemistry calls for improved corrosion resistance. Specify low-carbon variants when the downstream fabrication requires them.

Available supply formats

  • Full-width or slit rolls
  • Flat sheets and cut rectangles
  • Discs, strips and drawing-based cut pieces
  • Woven selvage or specified cut-edge treatment

International B2B purchasing

Sourcing from a China Wire Mesh Manufacturer

For purchasing teams in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain and Australia, a useful supplier quote starts with a clear specification—not just a mesh count. Send the details below so production, documentation and delivery requirements can be reviewed together.

Units
The table uses millimetres; state whether your drawing uses mm, inches or microns.
Quantity
Specify rolls, sheets, cut pieces or total area, plus trial and repeat-order quantities.
Documents
List material certificates, inspection reports or project-specific compliance documents required; availability must be confirmed.
Delivery
Provide the destination country, postal code or port, required delivery terms and target date.
Packing
State roll or sheet handling, labelling and any special export packing requirements.

Production & inspection

Checks That Matter for Plain Weave

Inspection scope is agreed with the purchase specification and the intended use.

  • Confirm material grade and incoming wire diameter.
  • Check warp and weft count, nominal opening and weave consistency.
  • Review roll width, cut dimensions, edges and visible weaving defects.
  • Label the finished specification and confirm export packing requirements.

Buyer questions

Plain Weave Wire Mesh FAQ

What is plain weave wire mesh?

It is woven with each warp wire passing alternately over and under each weft wire. When the warp and weft use the same mesh count and wire diameter, the result is a regular square-opening mesh.

How do I calculate the nominal opening of a square mesh?

For an equal-count square weave, nominal opening in millimetres is 25.4 divided by mesh count, minus wire diameter in millimetres. This is a reference calculation; final dimensions and tolerances must be confirmed for the order.

Is mesh count the same as the opening size?

No. Mesh count describes the number of openings per linear inch. Opening also depends on wire diameter, so two meshes with the same count can have different clear openings.

When should I choose twill weave instead?

Twill weave may be considered when a finer mesh count needs a relatively heavier wire or a different strength and flexibility balance. Share the target opening and service conditions so both constructions can be reviewed.

Can plain weave mesh be supplied in cut sizes?

Yes. Rolls, slit rolls, sheets and cut pieces can be reviewed. Specify finished dimensions, edge condition, quantity and any fabrication drawing in the inquiry.

Which information should I include in a quote request?

Provide the stainless steel grade, mesh count or target opening, wire diameter, width and length or cut-part size, quantity, destination and any inspection or packing requirements.

How do I get a plain weave stainless steel wire mesh price?

Request a quotation for your exact grade, mesh count, wire diameter, finished size and quantity. Price also depends on cutting, inspection, packing and delivery terms. A generic price list cannot represent every mesh combination; confirm the quoted unit and specification before comparing suppliers.

What is the MOQ for wholesale and OEM orders?

Minimum order quantity and lead time are confirmed for the requested specification and production requirements. Include your trial quantity, expected repeat-order volume and required delivery date. Do not assume that every reference size is available from stock.

Can I specify a 160-micron opening?

Include a target clear opening of 160 microns (0.160 mm) in your inquiry, together with the material grade and preferred wire diameter. Opening size is not mesh count: 160 microns does not mean 160 mesh. The weave combination, feasibility and tolerances need confirmation before ordering.

What should overseas buyers confirm before ordering?

Confirm the mesh specification, quantity, destination country and postal code or port, delivery terms, packing and required documents. Buyers in the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia should identify any project-specific inspection or compliance requirements before quotation. Document availability and delivery arrangements are reviewed for each order.
