Nominal opening: calculated for square mesh as 25.4 ÷ mesh count − wire diameter. Actual dimensions and tolerances must be confirmed for each order.
Dutch weave uses different warp and weft constructions and is quoted separately.
Specify Mesh Count by Weave Construction
For equal-count square mesh, the two directions have matching counts, such as 20 × 20 mesh. Dutch and reverse Dutch filter cloth need separate warp and weft counts and wire diameters. A single mesh number does not define their construction or filtration rating.
- Square-weave references
- Selected 4 × 4 to 200 × 200 mesh references; specify warp and weft counts per inch and wire diameters. Custom combinations require confirmation. Compare square-weave sizes and photos →
- Dutch weave specification
- Specify warp × weft counts per inch and each wire diameter, such as the published 20 × 150 plain Dutch or 20 × 250 twill Dutch references. Filtration ratings require product-specific test data; availability is confirmed separately. Review Dutch weave reference combinations →
- Reverse Dutch weave specification
- Specify warp × weft counts per inch and each wire diameter, such as the published 66 × 18 reverse plain Dutch reference. Confirm the complete construction, filtration test requirements and roll or belt dimensions for an order. Review reverse Dutch weave reference combinations →

How to Specify 316 Stainless Steel Wire Mesh
A comparable RFQ defines the grade, construction, mesh geometry, finished form, service conditions and commercial requirements together.Confirm SS316, T316 or 316L
SS316 and T316 commonly identify Type 316. Specify 316L separately when a low-carbon grade, welded fabrication or supporting material documentation is required.
Choose Woven, Filter or Welded Mesh
Use 316 stainless steel woven wire mesh for screening, square openings and general filtration, dense Dutch weave for fine filter media, or welded mesh for a fixed rigid grid.
Define Mesh Count, Opening and Wire
Provide mesh count and wire diameter together, or state the required clear opening or filtration target. Mesh count alone does not fully define a 316 stainless steel wire mesh screen.
Add Finished Form and Commercial Details
State roll width and length, sheet or screen size, edge condition, quantity, destination, packing, documentation and delivery target for comparable factory pricing.
Technical foundation
What Is 316 Stainless Steel Wire Mesh?
316 stainless steel wire mesh is made from molybdenum-bearing Type 316 stainless steel wire. It is selected for woven screens, filter media, welded grids and fabricated parts that need stronger resistance to chlorides and many chemical process environments than general-purpose 304 mesh.
In woven mesh, warp and weft wires form square openings or dense filtration structures. In 316 stainless steel welded wire mesh, intersecting wires are resistance-welded into a fixed grid. Buyers may use the names SS316, T316, stainless steel 316 wire mesh or wire mesh stainless steel 316; the purchase order should identify one governing grade and material standard.
316L stainless steel wire mesh uses the low-carbon variant and is often specified for welded filter elements or fabricated assemblies. Handheld XRF can identify chromium, nickel and molybdenum, but it cannot verify the low-carbon suffix, so 316L requires suitable documentation or carbon-capable testing when grade confirmation is critical.

Buyer questions
316 Stainless Steel Wire Mesh FAQ
What is 316 stainless steel wire mesh?
316 stainless steel wire mesh is woven, welded or formed from Type 316 stainless steel wire containing molybdenum. It is commonly selected for filtration, screening and fabricated parts exposed to chlorides or more demanding chemical service.
What is the difference between 316 and 316L stainless steel wire mesh?
316L has a lower maximum carbon content and is often specified for welded or fabricated components. Handheld XRF can identify the main alloying elements but cannot confirm the low-carbon suffix, so 316L should be supported by suitable material documents or carbon-capable testing when required.
When should I choose 316 instead of 304 stainless steel wire mesh?
316 contains molybdenum and is generally preferred when chloride exposure or a more demanding chemical environment needs improved corrosion resistance. Confirm the actual medium, concentration, temperature, cleaning cycle and expected service life before selecting the grade.
Do you manufacture 316 stainless steel woven wire mesh and filter mesh?
Yes. SS316 and 316L can be reviewed for square woven mesh, twill weave and Dutch weave filter media. Provide the mesh count or filtration target, wire diameter, weave, width, length, quantity and tolerances.
Can you supply 316 stainless steel welded wire mesh?
Yes. 316 stainless steel welded wire mesh can be supplied in rolls, cut sheets, rigid panels and fabricated parts. State the clear opening or pitch, wire diameter, dimensions, edge condition, quantity and required grade documentation.
Can you make a custom 316 stainless steel wire mesh screen?
Custom screens can be reviewed from a drawing or complete specification. Include the grade, mesh construction, opening, wire diameter, overall dimensions, frame or edge details, quantity and operating conditions.
How is 316 stainless steel wire mesh price calculated?
Price depends on the 316 or 316L grade, wire diameter, mesh count or opening, weave or welded construction, width and length, fabrication, quantity, certificate requirements, packing and destination. Send a complete specification for a comparable factory quote.
What information does a 316 stainless steel wire mesh supplier need for a quote?
Provide the material designation, woven or welded construction, mesh count or opening, wire diameter, dimensions, supply form, quantity, destination, documentation, packing and delivery target. Add a drawing for framed screens, filter discs or OEM parts.
