Specify Mesh Count by Weave Construction

For equal-count square mesh, the two directions have matching counts, such as 20 × 20 mesh. Dutch and reverse Dutch filter cloth need separate warp and weft counts and wire diameters. A single mesh number does not define their construction or filtration rating.

Specify warp × weft counts per inch and each wire diameter, such as the published 20 × 150 plain Dutch or 20 × 250 twill Dutch references. Filtration ratings require product-specific test data; availability is confirmed separately. Review Dutch weave reference combinations →
Reverse Dutch weave specification
Specify warp × weft counts per inch and each wire diameter, such as the published 66 × 18 reverse plain Dutch reference. Confirm the complete construction, filtration test requirements and roll or belt dimensions for an order. Review reverse Dutch weave reference combinations →

How to Specify 304 Stainless Steel Wire Mesh

A comparable RFQ defines the material designation, construction, mesh dimensions, finished form and commercial requirements together.
01

Confirm SS304, T304 or 304L

304 and T304 are commonly used purchasing designations for Type 304. Specify 304L separately when a low-carbon grade or welding-related documentation is required.

02

Choose Woven or Welded Mesh

Choose 304 stainless steel woven wire mesh for controlled openings and filtration. Choose welded mesh when fixed intersections and a rigid grid are central to the application.

03

Define Mesh Count and Wire

Provide mesh count and wire diameter together, or state the required clear opening. A 120 mesh or 200 mesh specification is incomplete without the wire diameter and weave.

04

Confirm Finished Supply Form

Add roll width and length, sheet or screen dimensions, edge condition, quantity, packing, destination and any fabrication drawing.

Technical foundation

What Is 304 Stainless Steel Wire Mesh?

304 stainless steel wire mesh is produced from Type 304 stainless steel wire in woven, welded or crimped constructions. It is widely selected for general industrial screening, filtration, sieving, guarding and fabrication because it balances corrosion resistance, formability and procurement cost.

In woven mesh, warp and weft wires interlace to create square openings or dense filtration structures. In welded mesh, intersecting wires are resistance-welded into a fixed grid. Buyers may describe the same material as SS304, Type 304, T304 or stainless steel 304 wire mesh; the purchase specification should state the governing material standard and any required certificate.

A useful quotation request defines the grade, construction, mesh count or opening, wire diameter, width and length or finished part size, quantity and service conditions. Fine 304 stainless wire mesh at 200 mesh needs especially clear wire-diameter, tolerance and handling requirements.

SS304 / Type 304 / T304

These names commonly refer to the same 18-8 austenitic stainless steel grade. State the required standard, chemistry documentation and inspection scope so the order is evaluated against one clear specification.

SS304L

304L stainless steel wire mesh uses the low-carbon variant of 304 and may be requested for welded or fabricated components. Handheld XRF cannot verify the low-carbon suffix, so supporting material documentation or a suitable test method is required.

Production workflow

Manufacturing & Quality Control

  1. Material and wire confirmation

Confirm SS304 or 304L, the applicable material standard, wire diameter and documentation requirements.

  2. Weaving or welding

Set the selected woven construction or welded grid dimensions for the required opening and finished width.

  3. Inspection and finishing

Check mesh count or pitch, wire diameter, opening and surface, then slit, cut or fabricate as specified.

  4. Identification and packing

Label finished goods by material and specification, then prepare export packing for the agreed supply form.

Inspection checkpoints

  • Material identification and document review
  • Mesh count, pitch or aperture inspection
  • Wire diameter measurement
  • Width, length and finished-size confirmation
  • Surface, edge and construction review
  • Packing and specification-label verification
Five stainless steel wire mesh quality checks: thickness, alloy grade, roll width, surface coating and dimensions

Buyer questions

304 Stainless Steel Wire Mesh FAQ

Are SS304, Type 304 and T304 stainless steel wire mesh the same?

They are commonly used as equivalent purchasing names for Type 304 stainless steel wire mesh. Because naming conventions can vary, the order should still identify the required material standard, chemistry documentation and inspection scope.

What is the difference between 304 and 304L stainless steel wire mesh?

304L is the low-carbon variant of 304 and is often considered for welded or fabricated components. Handheld XRF can screen alloying elements but cannot confirm the low-carbon suffix, so 304L should be supported by appropriate material documents or carbon-capable testing when required.

Can you supply 304 stainless steel woven wire mesh in 5 mesh?

5 mesh 304 stainless steel woven wire can be reviewed as a custom square-opening specification. State the wire diameter, required opening, roll or sheet dimensions, edge condition and quantity; mesh count alone does not fully define the product.

Can you supply 304 stainless steel woven wire in 120 mesh?

Yes, 120 mesh is included as a common square-woven reference. Confirm the wire diameter, nominal opening, weave, width, length and tolerance because different wire diameters produce different openings at the same mesh count.

What should I specify for 304 stainless fine wire mesh at 200 mesh?

For 200 mesh, specify the material, weave, wire diameter, nominal opening, roll width and length, quantity, edge requirement and application. Fine mesh handling, packing and dimensional tolerance should also be agreed before production.

Is 304 stainless steel wire mesh suitable for a screen or sieve?

304 stainless steel wire mesh screens are widely used for general industrial screening and sieving when Type 304 is compatible with the environment. Select the mesh count, opening, wire diameter and construction against the particle size, load, cleaning method and corrosion exposure.

When should I choose 316 instead of 304 wire mesh?

316 contains molybdenum and is generally evaluated where chloride exposure or a more demanding chemical environment requires improved corrosion resistance. Final grade selection should be based on the actual medium, concentration, temperature, cleaning cycle and service life target.

What information does a wholesale 304 wire mesh factory need for a quote?

Provide the material designation, woven or welded construction, mesh count or opening, wire diameter, dimensions, supply form, quantity, destination, required documents, packing and delivery target. A drawing is recommended for fabricated screens or OEM parts.
